Lymphedema is a chronic health condition that can happen after cancer treatment. I encourage everyone with a lymphedema diagnosis to check out one of several Facebook groups on the topic for support and advice.
Support is very important to those with a lymphedema diagnosis, because it is not common for a person with lymphedema to have a close friend that also has the condition. Finding friends online that are also bandaging their arm or leg and experiencing the questions and outright staring that comes with going out in public while in bandages or compression garments can give the newly diagnosed man or woman a sense of not being alone.
Being in an online group with others who have dealt with the ins and outs of lymphedema for decades can also be a great resource. Newcomers can ask questions and everyone can comment on treatment ideas that have worked and not worked for them. One caution is - know that not every treatment works for everyone and communicate with your healthcare provider before trying a new idea out like taking a supplement or starting a new diet or exercise regime.
